CURIOSIDADES

En esta entrada se van a comentar algunas curiosidades sobre los vikingos, ya hemos hablado un poco de su historia, así como de los tres dioses que pueden ser los más reconocidos, por eso en esta entrada, hablaremos sobre algunas curiosidades.

1. Bluetooth.

En algún momento de nuestra vida, hemos usado esta manera de transmisión de elementos multimedia. Todos conocemos su símbolo, pero, no es simplemente una "B". El nombre, proviene del rey noruego y danés Harald Bluetooth, y el logo es la combinación de las runas del nombre y apellido.

2. Cascos con cuernos.

Una de las imágenes más comunes que encontramos al representar a los vikingos, es que lleven unos casco con cuernos, nada más lejos de la realidad, esto no era cierto, si no que se representaron así en la corriente del romanticismo del siglo XIX para mostrar la ferocidad que mostraban en los campos de batalla, como si se tratara de animales furiosos.

3. Valhalla y Hellheim.

Así como en el cristianismo, existe tanto el cielo y el infierno, para los vikingos, podemos encontrar Valhalla (equivalente al cielo) y Hellheim (equivalente al infierno). Sin embargo, el funcionamiento para entrar en un lugar o en otro era muy diferente a lo que ocurre en la religión cristiana.

Para acceder a Valhalla, había dos requisitos, el primero es ser hombre, y el segundo haber muerto en batalla o con tu arma en la mano, de este modo, las valquirias, descenderían de Asgard, para llevarte al Valhalla, donde todos los días habrá una gran batalla, para por la noche realizar un festín con los dioses, hasta la llegada del Ragnarok.

Por otro lado, si sufrías una muerte natural o eras mujer, irías al reino de Hellheim, cuya soberana es Hela. Este es uno de los nueve reinos que se encuentran en Yggdrassil, el árbol que conecta todos los reinos existentes. Si sufrías una muerte deshonrosa, es decir eras asesinado, sin empuñar un arma, ibas a Hellheim, aunque había una manera de conseguir ir al Valhalla, que consistía en matar a la persona que había cometido el asesinato, con una hoja bañada en la sangre del muerto o de un familiar directo suyo (padre, madre, hermano/a).

2. Helmets with horns.

One of the most common images that we find in representing the Vikings, is that they wear a helmet with horns, nothing farther from reality, this was not true, they were represented like this in the current of Romanticism of the XIX century to show the ferocity that they had on the battlefields, as if they were furious animals.

3. Valhalla and Hellheim.

Just as in Christianity, there is both heaven and hell, for the Vikings, we can find Valhalla (equivalent to Heaven) and Hellheim (equivalent to Hell). However, the way to enter in one place or another was very different from what happens in the Christian religion.

To access Valhalla, there were two requirements, the first one is to be a man, and the second to have died in battle or with your weapon in hand,if being this way, the Valkyries, would descend from Asgard, to take you to Valhalla, where everyday there will be a great battle, and at night feast with the gods, until the arrival of Ragnarok.

On the other hand, if you suffered a natural death or you were a woman, you would go to the kingdom of Hellheim, whose sovereign is Hela. This is one of the nine kingdoms found in Yggdrassil, the tree that connects all existing realms. If you suffered a dishonorable death, meaning you were killed, without wielding a weapon, you were going to Hellheim, although there was a way to get to Valhalla, which was to kill the person who had committed the murder, with a blade bathed in the blood of the dead or a relative (father, mother, brother).
