La intención de este blog, no es sobre la serie, aunque también se vaya a mencionar. Pretendo dar información, tanto de la historia de los vikingos en un enfoque por siglos, así como algunas curiosidades de su cultura, y contar algunos míticos  de este pueblo.

Comenzamos, con su historia.

La época vikinga es el nombre que se le otorga al periodo histórico en Escandinavia (reinos de Noruega, Dinamarca y Suecia) y su área de influencia en Europa. Dicho periodo, comienza después de la edad de hierro en torno al 789 y finaliza unos siglos después, en el año  1100.

Durante esta época, el pueblo de los vikingos, no tan solo guerreros, también comerciantes atacan y exploran la mayor parte de Europa, el sudoeste de asiático, el norte de África y el norte de la América Occidental.
Fueron varios los nombres que recibieron, dependiendo de la zona donde se hallaban; los eslavos les llamaban rusos, los anglosajones, daneses; en Irlanda recibían el nombre de lochlannaigh, los andalusíes, magos; y los francos normanni.

Es común pensar de los vikingos como si fueran un poblado salvaje, hombres violentos que saqueaban, violaban y destruían todo, ciudades, monasterios... riéndose de las creencias de los demás, sin embargo esta imagen que tenemos no es cierta. The intention of this blog is not to talk just about the series, although it will also be mentioned. What I'm intending is to give information, both the history of the Vikings in an approach for centuries, as well as some curiosities of their culture, and tell some mythical aspects of this people.

Lets begin, with their history.

The Viking era is the name given to the historical period in Scandinavia (kingdoms of Norway, Denmark and Sweden) and its area of influence in Europe. This period begins after the Germanic Iron Age, around 789 a.D and ends a few centuries later, in the year 1100 a.D.

During this time, the Viking people, not only warriors, also merchants, attacked and explored most of Europe, Southwest Asia, North Africa and North West America.

They have been given several names depending on which area they were: Slavs called them Russians, the Anglo-Saxons, Danes; in Ireland they were called lochlannaigh, the Andalusians, magicians; and the Franks called them normanni.

It is common to think of the Vikings as if they were a wild village, violent men who plundered, raped and destroyed everything: cities, monasteries... laughing at the beliefs of others. However, this image we have about them is not a hundred percent true. But where does this image come from? Find out at the next entrance.
